Año del Oso

In honor of The Year of the Bear I have decided to make my first bear beanie! Holla! And as Dr. Mueller would say...Go Bears! Enjoy the free pattern and photos!



Supplies
I Love This Yarn! light taupe and old rose
Button of choice. La-petite pearl button used. (Must have shank backing)
N hook
J hook
Yarn needle
Scissors

Abbreviations
ch - chain
st - stitch
sl st - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
hdl - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
trc - triple crochet
[] - repeat

Hat pattern
2 strands of yarn used for the chunky look!
Round 1: ch 4, sl st in 1st ch made to make a circle, ch 1
Round 2: 11 hdc into center of circle, sl st, ch 1 (12)
Round 3: 2 hdc in next st, [hdc, 2 hdc in next st] sl st, ch 1 (18)
Round 4: hdc, 2 hdc in next st, [hdc 2, 2 hdc in next st] st st, ch 1 (24)

Add extra rounds using same method for larger sizes

Rounds 5 - 8: hdc in each st around
Rounds 9 - 10: sc in each st around, tie off, weave ends into beanie

Ears Pattern
Start with a Magic Ring but use 5 sc instead of 6, stop after completing step 6, ch 1
Round 2: 2 sc in next st, sc 3, 2 sc in next st, sk 1, sl st, ch1
Round 3: sc 7, sl st, ch 1
Round 4: 2 sc in next st, sc 6, 2 sc in next st, sl st, tie off, leave 12" tail.

Using yarn needle sew each ear to top of beanie, tie off, and weave in ends.


Flower pattern
Round 1: ch 4, sl st in 1st ch made to make circle, sl st, ch 1
Round 2: sc 10 into center of circle, sl st
Round 3: [ch 3, sk 1 st, sl st into next st], repeat around to make 5 petals, sl st, ch 1
Petals: into petal space sc 1, dc 1, trc 3, dc 1, sc 1. Continue around for each petal.
Round 4: working into the stitches of Round 2 crochet 2 hdc into each st around but skip the last two stitches. (16 hdc)

Round 5: repeat Round 3 to make 8 petals.
Petals: into petal space sc 1, dc 1, trc 4, dc 1, sc 1. Continue around for each petal, sl st, tie off leaving 24" tail.

Using yarn needle sew flower to the beanie below one of the ears.

Last but not least sew the button through the center of the flower to the beanie. Because every Baylor girl loves their pearl jewerly/accessories!
